The 2018 season has kicked off in a very interesting way with the 24H of Dubai giving us a very action-packed race.
The first 24H race of the year is now over, with the Black Falcon taking the overall win in the #2 Mercedes-AMG GT3. It was a dominant performance from the team, who pushed a lot in the second half of the race, leading for almost 12H straight. In total, the race had 9 different leaders.
Abdulaziz Al Faisal brought the winning car home, which he shared with Hubert Haupt, Yelmer Buurman and Gabriele Piana. This was the 4th win for Black Falcon in the Hankook 24 Hours of Dubai.
But it was the “Red Strorm” #3 Black Falcon Mercedes of Khaled Al Qubaisi, Jeroen Bleekemolen, Luca Stolz and Manuel Metzger, which had the overall lead of the race, until it was taken out of contention. With four hours to go, it had contact with the Hofor Racing A6-Am entry and led to an early retirement.
Second overall finished the #12 Manthey Racing Porsche 911 GT3 R two laps behind the leader. In 3rd placed finished the #964 Lamborghini Huracan GT3 of Grasser Racing after bouncing back from misfortunes early in the race. The Lamborchini started from overall pole position, but dropped back due to several punctures, with the first being on lap 9.
In A6-Am class, SPS Automotive Performance won the race, while Phoenix Racing dominated the GT4 category claiming a 1-2 finish with their Audi R8 LMS GT4s.
