GORO GGT3C Pre-Season Race Report: Chaos and a champion’s drive

The pre season race for the 2020 GORO GGT3C took place at the spectacular track of Dragon Trail Gardens, with the Starscream Enterprises driver and defending Champion Frederick Byloos winning the race.

The Belgian took home the checkered flag of the of the Pre-Season Race of the GORO GGT3C, after a hectic race that saw fierce battles, multiple cautions, and steaming tempers. Byloos was on another level of his own and took a dominating finish in 1st after starting on pole position. The #63 of Alexander Heinen would do the same as he would take home second place after having multiple battles of his own for the duration of the race. It seemed as he would finish just outside the Top 5, but with good strategy, he clawed his way back to the podium, one short of a win. The #14 of Rob Showler would benefit from penalties to take a 3rd place podium finishes as well having a race that involved a spin as well as a consistent drive.

The man behind the #939 of Luke Mitchell had a better day than usual after starting from the near the back of the field having a couple incidents, but benefited from a final lap incident between the #80 of CJ Holden and the #0 of Nicholas Cook, and earning a 4th place finish after penalties. CJ Holden would make the Top 5 in the #80 benefiting from penalties after being involved in a last lap collision with Nicholas Cook, and from an earlier unintentional collision with teammate and made a hard charge back up to the front. Gerard Pera would unfortunately be the first victim of stricken penalties, after finishing provisionally 3rd for the race in the #55 Mercedes AMG GT3, would unfortunately receive a 30 second penalty for avoidable contact under FCY with teammate CJ Holden in the #80.

Regardless, Pera finished 6th on the grid. Pedro Harsk would end the day with a 7th place result after he also would benefit from penalties to other racers as he looked to have an uneventful day as well keeping the car in one piece around the duration of the race. Paris Siafakas would also be safe from penalties as he would finish out in 8th place in the #21 New Union Race Club Entry, his race also saw fierce battles and good action as greed drivers looks to rebound next race.

South Africa became the latest nationality to make a start in the Global Online Racing Organisation, with Logistical Nightmare Racing owner Stewart Parsons getting a feel for the tense competition he will have to face in the 2020 Season. The South African driver rounding out from post race penalties to finish 9th place in his first result, despite an attempted different race strategy and a couple incidents, rebounded and benefited from penalties as well to clock in a good debut race.

It was a forgetful day for the other Starscream Enterprises BMW M6, as Nicholas Cook would unfortunately be costed a P9 provisional finish with Cook being handed a 30 second avoidable contact penalty on the last lap of the race. Jordan Brook had a worse day than usual as he drove to a P7 provisional finish only to be shafted by two penalties worth 40 seconds total to give him a P11 finish, as his race went nowhere near expectations for the Aussie. Rookie Josh Murray would also get his feet wet in GORO competition as he would debut the #357 NVR Lift Porsche 911 GT3 RSR. With a last place finish and a 30 second penalty, there was no doubt it could’ve been a better day for the American rookie, but regardless a good day in his eye for a good start.

The only retirement of the race came to a surprise to the field as Nick Marriott in the highly competitive Spectre Racing Team V12 Vantage GT3 was running strong all race with even running in the Top 5 for a majority of his race before a late gearbox failure took him out of contention for a good result. Look out as Round One of the Global GT4 Championship will get underway in one weeks time.
